The Association of Louisiana Bail Underwriters (ALBU) was founded in 1990 in order to represent bail agents in Louisiana. 

Purpose
The purpose of the Association of Louisiana Bail Underwriters shall be: 

  • To maintain, preserve, and protect, or to assist in maintaining, preserving and protecting, the surety and bail providers' industry in the State of Louisiana. 
  • To promote the growth of the surety and bail industry, and to assist in such growth; and
  • To educate and inform the public concerning the value of the surety and the bail industry in the State of Louisiana. 

Oath
I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the duties of a licensed Professional Bail Agent and will, to the best of my ability: preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States and this State; and I further solemnly swear that I will follow the Code of Ethics of the Association of Louisiana Bail Underwriters, be a defender of the 5th and 8th Amendments, support my local community in its fight against crime, and never give up the chance to make sure every bond jumper is returned to court to face his community's judgment, so help me God.

Voting Districts 
As a member of the ALBU, your Voting District is determined by the parish of the geographical area reported to the Department of Insurance for your license to write bail.

Membership
ALBU membership is divided into 3 categories: Agent, Surety Company, and Special. Find out more about membership here. 

Agent Class  |  The Agent Class Membership shall consist of persons who are licensed by the Commissioner of Insurance for the State of Louisiana to write surety, fidelity, and bail bonds and are currently authorized by an insurance company, authorized by the Commissioner of Insurance of the State of Louisiana to do business in the State of Louisiana, and to write bail bonds on behalf of said duly authorized insurance company. 

Surety Company Class  |  The Surety Company Class Membership shall consist of duly chartered and organized insurance companies who have been issued a certificate of authority by the Commissioner of Insurance of the State of Louisiana to write surety, fidelity and bail bonds, and who have duly licensed agents under contract to write bail bonds in the State of Louisiana. 

Special Class  |  The Special Class Membership shall consist of those individuals interested in the surety and bail business. Members of this class shall have no right to vote at any general or special meeting of the ALBU.
