SB 321, ALBU's e-bonds legislation, has officially been signed into law by Governor Jeff Landry and is now in effect.

This new law establishes a framework for electronic bonds in Louisiana while maintaining local oversight by parish sheriffs.

Key points include:

  • E-bonds may only be used in parishes that choose to implement e-bond software
  • Agents must be approved by the local sheriff to post e-bonds
  • Sheriffs may establish local requirements, including geofencing and parish approval standards
  • Electronic bond transactions will require identity verification and multi-factor authentication
  • ACH payments are permitted for e-bond transactions
  • Parishes utilizing e-bonds must still allow in-person bond posting
ALBU worked closely with legislators and stakeholders throughout the legislative process to advance this measure and ensure that electronic bonds can be implemented responsibly, securely, and with appropriate local control.
We will continue to keep members informed as implementation progresses across the state.
